Don’t be a hero…

God cares about you more than you know. He is the most loving, gentle, kind and caring Person there is. He is also the most powerful and mighty Person there is. God fights for the ones He loves and that includes you.

The reason I am telling you this is because sometimes we have an incomplete picture of God. In fact, I don’t think any of us know God totally and fully, He is God. However, from the moment we are saved, we are on this journey of discovering who God is and how He relates to us personally. As we walk with Him and commune with Him, we get to know Him as a loving Father, a dear Friend, and a mighty Savior.

The Christian journey was never designed for us to figure it all out on our own. Also, it wasn’t designed for us to try do everything on our own. Otherwise, we would have been perfectly fine with God the Father, Jesus and the Holy Spirit all being in heaven, and we figure out our own way down here. But that is not the case.

Acts 2:1-4 says, “On the day of Pentecost all the believers were meeting together in one place. Suddenly, there was a sound from heaven like the roaring of a mighty windstorm, and it filled the house where they were sitting. Then, what looked like flames or tongues of fire appeared and settled on each of them. And everyone present was filled with the Holy Spirit and began speaking in other languages, as the Holy Spirit gave them this ability.

We have been given this wonderful gift of the Holy Spirit who indwells us. That is, when we are filled with the Holy Spirit, we have God living on the inside of us. He does not do it begrudgingly. He was not forced into it. He wanted to be with us. He came like a roaring mighty windstorm and flames. That’s not someone who is being forced to be somewhere, the only thing missing was some confetti because the Holy Spirit was pumped to be with us!

We have been learning about the Holy Spirit at church in our new series, ‘Holy Spirit”. It is available on Apple podcasts and on our Maximize Church website or Facebook page, go have a listen, it will transform your life. Especially if you have been struggling in your Christian walk or in life in general it will bless you to know how involved the Holy Spirit wants to be with every area of your life.

The reason why we get to a point where we feel that life is too hard or that the Christian life in particular is too hard and we want to quit or just sit on the sidelines is because we do not realise that we have help available to us.

Imagine you are running a three person relay race (it’s usually four people but imagine three, work with me mate haha). You are holding the baton and you get to where you are meant to pass the baton on to the next person to start running but you don’t give them the baton. You just keep going. You feel tired and are about to faint but you won’t give them the baton because you are scared. You are scared of what will happen if you hand it over.

Well, I can tell you what will happen if you do not hand it over, you will get disqualified because that’s not how the race works. Also, even if you are not disqualified you will wear yourself out because you were not meant to be running the whole distance on your own.

Now imagine that that baton is your life. You are the first runner running the first leg of your life on your own. You get saved, you pass that baton on to Jesus who takes away your sins and your burdens and makes the next leg even smoother and He passes it on to the Holy Spirit who takes you the rest of the way. Your life can go much further much quicker when it is in the hands of God. We all have a point where we have to hand over the baton to God. The baton may even represent a specific area of life that you have been carrying and trying to do on your own. Give it to God and see what He can do with it.

John 14:26 says, “But the Helper, the Holy Spirit whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and remind you of all that I said to you.” We have help available. We are created to be depended on the living God. The One who lives in and among us. We have a Helper. Don’t be a hero, pass the baton.

Love and blessings
