But first…

1 Kings 22:5, “Then Jehoshaphat added, “But first let’s find out what the Lord says.””

I read this verse and stopped in my tracks. How many times do we make plans without consulting God? Or how often do we set out to go do something and then only consult God when it goes wrong. If it doesn’t go wrong- well you know what they say- if it ain’t broke…

So, what is the vital lesson to be learned from our verse today? It is ok to make plans, but we must do so with God. Proverbs 16:9 says, “Within your heart you can make plans for your future, but the Lord chooses the steps you take to get there”. How then are we to know how to get there if we leave God entirely out of it?

This is the reason why sometimes we find ourselves stuck in unproductive cycles. We find ourselves doing the same thing over and over again and yet yielding no results. Yet we know someone who did the exact same thing and it worked. What’s the difference? You are not them. You need to find out from God exactly what you need to do to get where you want to go.

I hope next time you make plans, before you run ahead to execute them, you pause just like Jehoshaphat and say, “But first let’s find out what the Lord says.”

Have a blessed week.

Love,

Mel.
