I remember the first time I heard those words from God. I was going through a hard time, not that anyone knew because I am good at internalising things. I was inwardly struggling and barely holding on but outwardly smiling and looking fierce. I thought no one knew my pain. No one knew my struggle or understood what I was going through. Until God spoke and said, “I see you”.
When He said those words it was like a part of me was enlightened because then I knew- in that moment I understood that not only could He see me, He knew my pain, He knew my struggle. He was not on the outside looking in. He is inside looking out. He lives in me.
There is a verse which says it is no longer I that lives, but Christ that lives in me (see Galatians 2:20). I remember the day God told me to stop looking at things and saying “I” but to say “We” because We are in this together. When I feel pain, He not only knows of my pain but He feels it too. When I struggle, He not only sees my struggle but He is in it too. So when God says, “I see you”, I hope you understand that that means He is in this with you.
He sees you. He feels you. He lives in you.
He sees you: Matthew 10:29-31 MSG says, “What’s the price of a pet canary? Some loose change, right? And God cares what happens to it even more than you do. He pays even greater attention to you, down to the last detail—even numbering the hairs on your head! So don’t be intimidated by all this bully talk. You’re worth more than a million canaries“. Our Father may be in heaven but His eyes are forever on us.
He feels you: Hebrews 4:14-16 MSG says, “Now that we know what we have—Jesus, this great High Priest with ready access to God—let’s not let it slip through our fingers. We don’t have a priest who is out of touch with our reality. He’s been through weakness and testing, experienced it all—all but the sin. So let’s walk right up to him and get what he is so ready to give. Take the mercy, accept the help“. Jesus feels your pain. He understands what you are going through because He also went through tough times to the point of dying on the cross.
He lives in you: 1 Corinthians 6:19 AMP says, “Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit who is within you, whom you have [received as a gift] from God, and that you are not your own [property]?” We belong to God and to seal the deal with us, whilst we are still here on earth, the Holy Spirit was given to us as a gift and He lives in us.
So the Father, Jesus and the Holy Spirit are in this with you. God sees you and He loves you more than you know.
