Papa God

Last week we finished off asking the question, “What is Papa God like?” We answered that question by saying He is like Jesus, or more accurately, Jesus is like the Father. Colossians 1:15 says, “He [Jesus] is the divine portrait, the true likeness of the invisible God, and the firstborn heir of all creation.” If Papa God sat down for a portrait and someone painted Him, His picture would look just like Jesus.  Isn’t that crazy! Have you ever seen kids who are the spitting image of one of their parents? You just look at them and it is a copy paste type situation. The Bible tells us that Jesus is essentially a copy and paste of Papa God.

If that is true, it therefore makes sense why Jesus said this, “Jesus replied, “Have I been with you all this time, Philip, and yet you still don’t know who I am? Anyone who has seen me has seen the Father! So why are you asking me to show him to you? Don’t you believe that I am in the Father and the Father is in me? The words I speak are not my own, but my Father who lives in me does his work through me. Just believe that I am in the Father and the Father is in me. Or at least believe because of the work you have seen me do,” John 14:9-11.

Have you ever said something and shocked yourself at how much like your mother or father you sounded? Jesus tells us that to Him, it’s no surprise. He and the Father are One and they are so connected that the words He speaks are from the Father who lives in Him and works through Him. God is in three Persons, but He is more connected that we can ever understand.

But what Jesus is describing about the Father being in Him reminds me of how we have Jesus living in us. When we give our lives to Jesus, we know that “[i]t is no longer I who lives but Christ lives in me,” Galatians 2:20. So we are not new to this concept of God living in us and it therefore cannot surprise us when we hear Jesus say the Father lives in Him. Which makes the cross very interesting. Papa God felt every part of that cross as much as Jesus did. Only in heaven will we fully understand exactly how much it cost God so we could be forgiven, reconciled and have the right to be His children.

So, our heavenly Father, if we want to know what He is like, we look at Jesus. What did Jesus do while He was on earth? He loved on people. He was super humble. He cared for people and He was kind to the people that would otherwise feel like they didn’t have a right to be near God and He went to their homes and ate with them and spent time with them.

Our heavenly Father is just like that. He wants to meet you where you are at. He wants to come to your home and dine with you. He wants to do everyday mundane things with you. He wants to be part of your everyday life.

I am a bit of a talker, once I get started I can’t stop. I am blessed with an earthly dad and a spiritual dad who just let me talk and they listen to my random stories and are interested in what I have to say. Our heavenly Father is much like that. It may feel like ramblings to us but He wants to hear it all. He wants to hear from you. You don’t have to be afraid of Him.

Jesus is the key the unlocks the door to the Father, and the door is wide open. Why don’t you take a step in and talk to your heavenly Father. Not like He is some distant far-off God sitting in heaven somewhere but like He is your very own heavenly Father who wants to come sit with you at your table and listen to all you have to say. He wants to hear from you. He loves the sound of your voice when you speak to Him. Nothing draws His attention quicker than you calling His Name. Abba, Father. Papa God.
