Our God is three in One. We have our Father, Son (Jesus) and Holy Spirit. So many of us short change ourselves. Our God is three in one yet, most Christians stop at Jesus. They never get to encounter the baptism of the Holy Spirit and experience the amazing power and life of Holy Spirit flowing through them. I could not do life without Holy Spirit. I need help and boy am I glad God gave us Holy Spirit!
There are also people who have stopped at Jesus and maybe even possibly Holy Spirit but never get to encounter the Father. I used to have FOMO. I was so scared of missing out and missing God then I realised that God was not hiding from me, He was pursuing me. Drawing me in, calling me closer and closer each day and He is doing the same with you. Perhaps you have become comfortable with Jesus, you feel He gets you because He was human and did a stint on earth. However, you may feel a bit apprehensive about approaching the Father.
In the last few weeks we talked about how God sees us. When our heavenly Father looks at us (I call Him Papa God), when Papa God looks at us, He sees us in Christ. He sees His son or daughter whom He loves. He sees us as righteous, blameless, flawless and restored. When I first because saved I was familiar with Jesus. I would pray and talk to Jesus. Then I got filled with the Holy Spirit and I genuinely could not sleep at night because I’d be talking to Holy Spirit into the early hours of the morning, I was so excited and grateful. I knew about Papa God but I feel I did not have a personal relationship with Him. It was years before I opened up my heart to Papa God and when I did, He was not a grumpy and angry God. I think that’s what most are afraid of. That when they approach Papa God they are going to be met with wrath and anger and all the scary Old Testament stuff.
I have had moments where things have gone wrong and I have been angry. I get mad when I see injustice which is probably why I am in the line of work I am in. Does that make me an angry person? No. Yet, we sometimes lock God in one part of the Bible and say yep, that’s who He is. Is it though? The whole Bible was given to us to reveal God to us, not some parts. John 14:6 says, “Jesus told him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one can come to the Father except through me.” So Jesus is our access to Papa God, He is the password the unlocks the door to our wonderful Papa God.
So what is Papa God like? You may be wondering. Jesus said this in John 14:9-10, “Anyone who has seen me has seen the Father! So why are you asking me to show him to you? Don’t you believe that I am in the Father and the Father is in me? The words I speak are not my own, but my Father who lives in me does his work through me.”
Sometimes people are scared of Papa God because they are not too sure how He feels about them, but last week we took a glimpse into the love that Papa God has for us. He loves you more than words. He loves you so much He gave what was most valuable to Him, His Son Jesus, so you could be redeemed and so He could adopt you as His own. He is a good good Father.
What is Papa God like? He is like Jesus. Maybe a better way to put it is that Jesus is like Papa God. We will continue talking about that next week.
Love and blessings,
Melissa Tsingano.
