I saw this post by Zig Ziglar the other day it said, “If you quit now… you’ll end up right back where you first began. And when you first began, you were desperate to be where you are right now. Keep going!”
This got me thinking; we sometimes let the frustrations of today blind us of how far we have come. It is easy to let our eyes and our minds zero in on the one thing that doesn’t seem to be working. Same way with how you can be having a good day and one bad thing happens and it can throw you off for the rest of the day… if you let it. Life can be a little bit like that. One bad situation or one bad season can make you lose sight of God.
Last week we were talking about how God is with us through everything. So because God is with us we must not give up when things get a bit rough. When things are not going our way it’s a time to dig even deeper into God. It’s a time to hang on even tighter to the word of God. We press into God and we lean on Him for strength to keep moving ahead.
Philippians 3:12-16 says, “I don’t mean to say that I have already achieved these things or that I have already reached perfection. But I press on to possess that perfection for which Christ Jesus first possessed me. No, dear brothers and sisters, I have not achieved it, but I focus on this one thing: Forgetting the past and looking forward to what lies ahead, I press on to reach the end of the race and receive the heavenly prize for which God, through Christ Jesus, is calling us. Let all who are spiritually mature agree on these things. If you disagree on some point, I believe God will make it plain to you. But we must hold on to the progress we have already made.”
So this verse gives us a few keys:
Forget the past. Let go of all past mistakes and failures even the ones that happened 5 minutes ago. It’s in the past. The moment we pray and ask God to forgive us, His word says in Psalm 103:12, “Farther than from a sunrise to a sunset— that’s how far you’ve removed our guilt from us.” So let go of that guilt and shame. It doesn’t belong to you. You are forgiven.
Look forward to what lies ahead. Get excited! You serve a good God and your future is bright! Proverbs 4:18 says, “But the lovers of God walk on the highway of light, and their way shines brighter and brighter until the perfect day.” A life lived serving God only gets better and better.
Press on with life. Keep moving forward. Don’t get stuck. Proverbs 37:23-24 says, “When Yahweh delights in how you live your life, he establishes your every step. If they stumble badly they will still survive, for the Lord lifts them up with his hands.”
Hold on to the progress you have already made. That is, remind yourself of how far you have come. You may not be where you want to be but you are not where you used to be. Keep moving ahead. Philippians 1:6, “And I am certain that God, who began the good work within you, will continue his work until it is finally finished on the day when Christ Jesus returns.”
One way for us to finish our race and receive our heavenly reward is by not quitting. Keep pressing, keep pushing forward. Keep moving ahead with God. Quitting on your God walk is not an option. Stay the course.
Love and blessings,
Melissa Tsingano.
