Ephesians 4:32 MSG version says, “Make a clean break with all cutting, backbiting, profane talk. Be gentle with one another, sensitive. Forgive one another as quickly and thoroughly as God in Christ forgave you”.
The last sentence of that verse tugged on my heart as I read it. “Forgive… as quickly and as thoroughly as God in Christ forgave you”. Sometimes we hold onto things far longer than we should. We get offended by something but instead of dealing with it straight away we hold onto it. We think bad thoughts towards people and we don’t treat them with kindness and compassion.
Have you ever realised that when you are offended with someone, everything they say or do all of a sudden becomes offensive? It’s almost as though they cannot do anything right. That’s a work of the enemy right there. He thrives when there is hidden offence and he feeds the offence to make it bigger than it really is.
God’s word tells us to make a clean break with all cutting, backbiting and profane talk. When we forgive each other quickly and thoroughly, there is no room for the offence to grow into cutting, backbiting and profane talk. Profane talk is disrespectful talk, blasphemous, irreverent or mocking talk.
So, let’s not give room to the enemy in our lives. Let us be quick and thorough in our forgiveness towards one another. Let us be gentle with one another and sensitive towards each other.
Have a blessed week.
Amen
