2 Corinthians 6:18 says, “And I will be your Father, and you will be my sons and daughters, says the LORD Almighty“.
I was thinking this morning about how our identity is in God. The things we see around us are subject to change but God does not change, see Hebrews 13:8. I have been hearing a lot lately about embracing change and embracing unexpected things. However, for us to be able to embrace those things in a healthy way that will bring growth and strength to us, we must first know who we are and most importantly, whose we are. We are sons and daughters of God and He is our Father.
1 Corinthians 6:17 says, “But whoever is united with the Lord is one with him in spirit”. There is no separation between us and God in our spirit when we are born again. Not only that, the same Spirit who raised Jesus Christ from the dead is alive in us, see Romans 8:11. That is how we can take on change or the unexpected head on knowing that we belong to God and we are His children. He is with us and for us. Even when the ground beneath us gives way, He’s always there to catch us.
We must then remain confident in ever changing circumstances knowing that our identity is found in the One who is always faithful and who loves us endlessly. We should not allow circumstances to determine our identity instead we must remain grounded in who we are in God even when we don’t understand the circumstances we are in.
Have a blessed week!
