Love with your thoughts.

Philippians 4:8 says, “So keep your thoughts continually fixed on all that is authentic and real, honourable and admirable, beautiful and respectful, pure and holy, merciful and kind. And fasten your thoughts on every glorious work of God, praising him always”.

I like the wording of that verse. It tells us that we have control over our thoughts and we can train our minds to have our thoughts continually focused on the things of God. Our thoughts can carry us into dark and hopeless places but the word of God brings light and hope into every situation.

The word “fixed” in our verse means secure or immovable. Our thoughts need not move left or right depending on how we feel but they are to remain fixed on what is authentic and real and there is nothing more authentic and real than the love God has for us.

Sometimes we learn to fix our eyes on Jesus but our thoughts are elsewhere. We must learn to fix both our eyes and our thoughts on Jesus. That is why Jesus said in Matthew 22:37, “Love the Lord your God with every passion of your heart, with all the energy of your being, and with every thought that is within you”.

It matters what you think. Not only because God can see your thoughts but because your thoughts determine the course of your life, Proverbs 23:7 NKJV.

Have a blessed week.
