Rely on God’s love.

1 John 4:16 says, “And so we know and rely on the love God has for us…”.

What does it mean when the verse says we “rely on the love God has for us”? It means there are times when life is going great and we cannot wait to tell the world how much God loves us. However, there are times when life hits us in the face with the unexpected. It is in those times that we are to rely on God’s love for us to carry us through the tough places.

It is in the valley that we need to remember to rely on God’s love to bring us back to the mountain top. Relying on God’s love is trusting Him with your life. Trusting that He has everything under control. We may not “feel” loved when we are going through tough times. We must never look to our feelings for support. Instead we are to turn our eyes to the truth of the Word and choose to believe instead in the unconditional love of our Father.

To rely is to trust, to be sure of or to count on. When we cannot see a way out, we are to be sure of God’s love for us. When we feel overwhelmed, we are to count on God’s love for us. When we are filled with doubt or despair, we are to trust God’s love for us. All of that is to say, we must always rely on God’s love. His love is endless- knows no beginning or end and it never fails (see Jeremiah 31:3 and Psalms 63:2-3).
