I recently paid a visit to the Potters House Dallas Texas and Bishop TD Jakes was preaching a message about our mind but he mentioned peace. The three different types of peace. There is peace in God, peace with God and the peace of God. I have shared in recent times on Heavenly Whispers about the peace of God that surpasses all understanding. Today, I would like to talk about peace with God.
Do you believe you have peace with God? If your heart did summersaults when I asked that question, perhaps you are uncertain. What is peace with God, is probably a great place to start.
Romans 5:1-2 says, “Therefore, since we have been made right in God’s sight by faith, we have peace with God because of what Jesus Christ our Lord has done for us. Because of our faith, Christ has brought us into this place of undeserved privilege where we now stand, and we confidently and joyfully look forward to sharing God’s glory”.
Having peace with God is something that we receive by faith. Other translations of that verse say we have been justified by faith. Faith that Jesus Christ paid the ultimate price for our sins when He died on the cross. Faith that it is God who raised Him back to life as proof to us that the price for our sins had been paid and our sins are forgiven.
It is explained this way: Say you owe someone $1,000,000.00. You do not have that kind of money in the bank and you cannot pay it back. Another person comes along and says instead of you going to jail and paying the price for that $1,000,000.00 debt you owe, they will go to jail for you. If that person goes to jail and you never see them again it is unsettling. Why, because there is no closure as to whether your prison sentence was fully satisfied or whether one day the police are going to snatch you up from the street and throw you in jail. However, if you see that person free after they have served your sentence, it brings you peace in knowing that the debt has been paid in full by time served in prison.
In the same way, Jesus paid the price for our sins. He took the punishment that was meant for you and I upon Himself and our sins were fully punished in Him. That is all sins, past, present and future. However, if Christ did not come back to life, we would never be certain that the price was paid. So, believing in the death of Christ alone is not enough, you also have to believe that He rose again and many witnessed Him alive. By His death we know the price of our sins was paid and by His life we have living hope of a glorious future with with God.
When we believe that then by faith, we can live in peace with God knowing that Christ took care of our debt to God and because of our faith in Christ’s finished work, Jesus brings us into this place of undeserved privilege with God. We are not justified by our works, we are justified by faith in the complete work of Christ on the cross.
It is that justification that brings us into a place of peace with God. Where our sins are removed from us as God intended in Psalms 103:11-12 where it says, ”For his unfailing love toward those who fear him is as great as the height of the heavens above the earth. He has removed our sins as far from us as the east is from the west”.
We do not earn peace with God. We cannot buy it and we cannot work hard for it. We simply receive it by faith. We believe our sins are forgiven because Christ paid the price. Now, I will ask the question again, do you believe you have peace with God?
You can have this peace today. If you have not accepted Jesus as your Lord and wish to do so now, be bold and say this prayer with me, “Father, I thank You for Your Son Jesus Christ and His finished work on the cross. I invite Jesus into my heart to be my Lord and Saviour and I pray that You forgive all of my sins. I believe today, that all my sins are forgiven because Christ paid the price and from this day on, I have peace with You. Thank You Lord for Your love and mercy. In Jesus Name I pray and I believe, Amen”.
If you prayed that prayer today, I welcome you to the family of believers! I pray that you find a good Bible based church near you. If you are in Sydney, look up Maximize Church. That’s my church home and the people are wonderful, come join us.
I pray you have a blessed week and enjoy living life knowing that you have peace with God!
Love and blessings!
