IOU Day 2

The other day I had this idea to write down all the things that I am thankful for. It is a list I am still working on because let’s be honest, how many times have you ever overlooked the importance of a thing until one day you did not have it? I remember I was so used to having access to a computer all the time until one day my laptop died and I did not have the money to replace it and I was no longer a university student so I could not just go on campus and use their computers. Then I understood the value of a laptop. It is then that I grew the appreciation I now have for my current laptop which has had the longest survival rate of all my other laptops! Glory to God!

I once heard that we ought to store up memories from the good days to throw at the bad. I think the same applies with being thankful. We store up all the things we ought to be thankful for so that when one thing stops working we can turn to our list and remind ourselves that though one thing is not working, we have X number on our thankful list that are going well. So instead of complaining about what is not working, we can focus on our list and thank God for what is working.

Today I encourage you, find some time within the next few days. Set aside 5 minutes a day to write out your list of all the things you are thankful for. Read it out to God and thank Him as you add more stuff to it. Each time you remember something new, add it. That way when one thing goes wrong and it is sticking out like a sore thumb, we can turn to our list and maintain our posture of praise as we thank God for all He has done.

Some of the problems we have are because we are blessed. An example would be- I hate congested trains in the morning. But the only reason why I would be on a congested, packed out train at 7AM in the morning is because I am going to work. So before I complain about the congestion, I ought to thank God that I have a good job and lovely people in my office. When we choose to be thankful instead of complaining, it shifts our focus in such a way that we are more inclined to see the hand of God in our lives. Also God likes to do stuff for thankful people, just FYI.

Write your Thanks list!! 🙂 Have a blessed day.
