Have you made your New Year’s resolutions yet? Most times we start the year with the hope of becoming a better version of ourselves. How about this year, we enter the year with the hope of becoming not a better version of ourselves, but more like Jesus. Becoming a better representation of the God who loves us through our crap and saves us and is kind and patient towards us.
2 Corinthians 3:16-18 says, “But the moment one turns to the Lord with an open heart, the veil is lifted and they see. Now, the “Lord” I’m referring to is the Holy Spirit, and wherever he is Lord, there is freedom. We can all draw close to him with the veil removed from our faces. And with no veil we all become like mirrors who brightly reflect the glory of the Lord Jesus. We are being transfigured into his very image as we move from one brighter level of glory to another. And this glorious transfiguration comes from the Lord, who is the Spirit.”
Becoming more like Jesus is not passive. It is on purpose. Our verse tells us we first need to submit to the Lordship of the Holy Spirit by inviting Him into our hearts and into our lives. As Holy Spirit begins to rule and reign in our lives, freedom comes into our lives. As we embrace more of God’s freedom, we begin to pursue Jesus more and lay aside worldly things. As we do that, we begin to reflect our wonderful Jesus.
Maybe we were a little messy in 2024 but 2025 is a new year. A new year to me is like a new day, or the beginning of a new chapter. There is fresh grace for 2025, fresh anointing and fresh mercies. In 2025, we get a new opportunity to pursue Jesus again, invite Holy Spirit in again, get more freedom and reflect more of Jesus in our lives. We will get to create new memories, grow again, love again, laugh again, cry again, fall again and get up again.
No matter what 2025 brings, our hope is always in Jesus. I wish I could tell you that in 2025 everything will go your way, and you will not make any mistakes, and everything is going to be amazing, and you will reflect Jesus so much you will consistently be mistaken for Jesus’ twin but then I will be lying. All I know is that 2025 is going to be good. That to me means when we add up all the good, the amazing and the ugly that will come our way, we will stand at the end of the year and marvel at the goodness and faithfulness of God. Growth is progressive. It does not happen overnight, but God is faithful to complete the good work He has started in you, Philippians 1:6.
So as we look at 2025, there may be areas of our lives that are straight up messed up. But we know that our God will make a way where there is no way. He will bring blessing and provision when we need it. He will bring breakthrough and deliverance to our lives, fill our hearts with His love, joy and peace, fulfill His promises at the right time and love and care for us through the year.
Lamentations 3:21-24 says, “Yet there is one ray of hope when I remember this: Yahweh ’s tender mercies have no end, and the kindness of his endless love is never exhausted. New, fresh mercies greet me with every sunrise. So wonderfully great is your faithfulness! I tell my soul, “Yahweh is my abundant portion. I need nothing more. So, I will put all my hope in him.””
So, we don’t need to look at 2025 with fear, but instead with excitement. Fully cognisant that God wants to be good to us in 2025. He wants to free us and deliver us. He wants to draw us to Himself. His plans are always for good! All we have to do is to choose Jesus and to keep choosing Jesus. Whenever life throws you a choice, always choose Jesus. Even when it doesn’t make sense, keep walking with Jesus. He will get you to the other side of 2025 safe and secure and not only that; if you will let Him transform you, you will be looking a little more like Jesus when 2025 wraps up. How exciting is that!
Love and blessings,
Melissa Tsingano.
