Hidden storehouse of wisdom

Last week we were looking at how we have a part to play in our destiny. We don’t get to sit back and let life happen. We have to be proactive in fulfilling our destiny, in doing our part in letting God’s will be done on Earth as it is in heaven.

God has some work for us to do. If we want to be like Jesus and finish strong, we need to know what it is that God wants us to do. This is where the church comes in. Proverbs 2:7-9, “For the Lord has a hidden storehouse of wisdom made accessible to his godly ones. He becomes your personal bodyguard as you follow his ways, protecting and guarding you as you choose what is right. Then you will discover all that is just, proper, and fair, and be empowered to make the right decisions as you walk into your destiny.”

Finishing strong is not about how we start, it’s the decisions we make in the middle. We all made a decision to accept Jesus into our hearts at some point. But what determines our final outcome is what we do after we say “Yes” to Jesus. Do we honour that “Yes” for the rest of our lives and live our lives serving Him or do we go off and do our own thing? God wants to enable us to make the right decisions. He wants to empower us to fulfill our destiny. Therefore, He gives us access to His hidden storehouse of wisdom.

I believe the hidden storehouse of wisdom is the Church. Malachi 3:10 refers to the church as the “storehouse”. So why is it important to be in the church? Revelations 2:17 says, “Anyone with ears to hear must listen to the Spirit and understand what He is saying to the churches…” Revelations 22:16, “I, Jesus, have sent my angel to give you this message for the churches…” God pours out His wisdom to the Church.

Ephesians 4:11-12 says, “And he has appointed some with grace to be apostles, and some with grace to be prophets, and some with grace to be evangelists, and some with grace to be pastors, and some with grace to be teachers.  And their calling is to nurture and prepare all the holy believers to do their own works of ministry, and as they do this they will enlarge and build up the body of Christ.”

Jesus gives us (the Church) apostles, prophets, evangelists, pastors and teachers to equip us for the work of the ministry so we can enlarge and build the body of Christ. The body of Christ is the Church, Colossians 1:24 and Ephesians 5:23. That is the global Church, being all churches that believe in Jesus Christ combined regardless of denomination.

So, if we need wisdom in our lives or if we are not sure how to partner with God’s plans on Earth, we need to go to the place where we can get wisdom and the place where we can be equipped for the work of the ministry, the Church. The word used for ministry is translated from the Greek to mean service. Who serves? Servants. And we are full circle back at what we are aiming for, being good and faithful servants.

To hear those words from Jesus at the end of our lives, we need to make sure we are in the Church getting equipped for the works of service. That is, if we want to finish our race and finish strong, we need to locate ourselves in the Church. If you are already planted in a church perhaps there are people in your world who you can invite to come to church with you. I have found that now more than ever, people are open to hearing about God. Who knows, maybe if you invite them to church they may just say yes.

Love and blessings,
