Firm Foundation

We live in a day and age where we are more concerned about the appearance of a thing than the foundations of a thing. I remember hearing an older person talking about what they look for when they are looking at a property. They look at the structural integrity of the building and not just the finishings. The house can be beautifully painted, have amazing interiors and so on but if it is built in a flood prone zone and the foundations did not account for flooding, that house is going to be a floating house in a flood. It is going to be destroyed and the flood does not care about the beautiful interiors or finishings.

Here in Sydney when people are buying a house, they are encouraged to get a building report. A building report will alert you as to structural issues in the building. Is there some cracking in the walls or floors that could indicate an issue with the foundations of the building? These are the things you look for. Foundations matter.

Our lives are like houses. They are built on something. With every decision we make we are laying a foundation and putting the structure of our house in. Some houses do not look like much because the people who are building them are taking their time digging to the correct depth and making sure they have the right foundations. Some houses go up quick, not much digging but they are beautiful.

When the storms of life come, how beautiful the house looks will be irrelevant. The only relevant factor is the foundation and the building materials.

As Christians we know that Jesus Christ is our firm foundation. He is the rock on which we build our lives on. That come what may, we will remain unshakeable and unmoveable. What does it mean to build your life on Jesus? What does it look like? We are going to look at that over the next coming weeks.

I will say this, building your life on Jesus does not happen automatically. It takes a conscious effort. You have to be intentional about it and unfortunately, it’s not something that someone else can do for you. It is important that we get our foundations right because life is going to happen to us all. The rain is going to come and what will determine whether you become the floating house, or the sturdy house is how you have built your house. How strong are your foundations? We can’t escape life, we can’t escape trouble or problems. We have a real enemy who has made it his life’s work to steal from us, destroy our lives and kill us.

If you are not careful, the devil will take you out of this life before your time comes. We have seen an increase in suicides in the last few years, all kinds of sickness and diseases coming from nowhere. We have a real enemy and life can get overwhelming. In fact, life is overwhelming without Jesus. We need Jesus. We need to make sure that we are building our lives right, so we can not only survive, but thrive and flourish.

Have an awesome week!

Love and blessings,

Melissa Tsingano.
