You are only as strong as your mind believes you are, it matters what you think about yourself. Words I said to a friend recently. See, as much as I was speaking to my friend and encouraging her that she is stronger than she thinks, I was speaking those words to myself too. We all have faced situations or things that made us feel weak, inferior, stupid, less than, ill equipped, the list goes on.
What the enemy does is he takes a series of those things that make us feel inadequate and he piles them up as proof against us that we are too weak, inferior, stupid, less than or ill equipped to apply for that job, do that thing that God is asking us to do, stop that pattern of behaviour, whatever the situation may be. The enemy creates strongholds in our minds, patterns of thinking that do not align with God’s word. The sad part is, we believe him. We believe the lies and we have all lived under the oppression of one lie or another at some point in time.
I call it oppression because if knowing the truth and applying it to our lives will set us free, it must mean living under the lies is living under oppression. Lies bind us up and they stop us from progressing. They stop us from pursuing after the things God says we can pursue. They stop us from being all we are called to be in God. They stunt our growth and if we leave them unchecked long enough, they can steal our joy, kill our passion for God and destroy us.
John 10:9-10 says, “I am the Gateway. To enter through me is to experience life, freedom, and satisfaction. A thief has only one thing in mind—he wants to steal, slaughter, and destroy. But I have come to give you everything in abundance, more than you expect —life in its fullness until you overflow!”
It is time we break free from the prison of the devil’s lies. What lies has the devil been telling you? Ask God to reveal to you the lies you have believed and taken to be facts. Is everyone in your family just that way (that’s just how we are or we all have a short fuse or it is just a hereditary illness) or is it a generational curse that has been passed down through the family line?
Only God can reveal these things to us. What lies are you living under? Pray and ask God. Then ask Him to tell you His thoughts, His heart, His view about the same thing and choose to believe what God says instead. Embrace God’s word as truth. “For if you embrace the truth, it will release true freedom into your lives,” John 8:32.
Knowing that the Bible says you are more than a conqueror and believing that you are a conqueror are two different things. We need to take the truth of God’s word and believe it in our hearts and speak it out as truth. Faith comes by hearing and hearing by the word of God, Roman 10:17. The more truth hear, the more truth we can embrace. The more truth we lay hold off and believe and apply to our lives, the more we experience life, freedom and satisfaction in Jesus Christ.
