“Come back, to your first love, first love. Come back, home. Back where you belong. Come to your… first love…” Those are lyrics from the song, “First love” by Kirk Franklin. We have been talking about our love walk with God. About falling in love with Jesus and getting to know Him and rekindle our love and passion for Him.
You’d think it would be easy to love Jesus. After all He died for us and paid the ultimate price for our sins. Yet, there is always a resistance when we make steps towards Jesus. Sometimes we get in our own way by wrong believing or talking ourselves out of His love but other times we are facing opposition from the enemy of our souls. The devil knows that the moment we realise just how much we are loved, we can’t help but reciprocate that love right back to Jesus. The more we love Jesus the more we want to be with Him and want to be more like Him. The more time we spend with Him and the more like Him we become, the more dangerous we become to the devil’s works and plans in the earth. That’s why we face so many challenges in this area of our lives.
I don’t know what you have been facing. I do not know what invisible forces have been tugging at your heart, your attention, your affection or your devotion. But I know this; God is reaching out to you. He wants a relationship with you. You don’t need to be perfect you just need to be you. God’s love for you is so genuine and so deep. He sees everything yet He still wants you. He still wants me. How crazy is that. He knows every thought you have ever thought and everything you have ever done or wanted to do yet He loves you totally and completely.
Romans 8:35-39 says, “Who could ever divorce us from the endless love of God’s Anointed One? Absolutely no one! For nothing in the universe has the power to diminish his love toward us. Troubles, pressures, and problems are unable to come between us and heaven’s love. What about persecutions, deprivations, dangers, and death threats? No, for they are all impotent to hinder omnipotent love, even though it is written: All day long we face death threats for your sake, God.
We are considered to be nothing more than sheep to be slaughtered! Yet even in the midst of all these things, we triumph over them all, for God has made us to be more than conquerors, and his demonstrated love is our glorious victory over everything! So now I live with the confidence that there is nothing in the universe with the power to separate us from God’s love. I’m convinced that his love will triumph over death, life’s troubles, fallen angels, or dark rulers in the heavens. There is nothing in our present or future circumstances that can weaken his love. There is no power above us or beneath us—no power that could ever be found in the universe that can distance us from God’s passionate love, which is lavished upon us through our Lord Jesus, the Anointed One!”
That is one of the most re-assuring verses in the Bible. There is nothing you have done and nothing you could do that will separate you from God’s love. So, come back to your first love. Come back home, where you belong. God is home for us. There is something about His Presence that makes us feel like we are exactly where we belong. He is our home, our safe place. Come back home.
