God is on your team.

Do you know that God will never give up on you? 1 Corinthians 13:7 says, “Love is a safe place of shelter, for it never stops believing the best for others. Love never takes failure as defeat, for it never gives up.” There is no such thing as too far gone in God’s vocabulary. Also, God is a safe hiding place. He is a place of safe shelter for us.

I remember as a kid sometimes my dad would work late. I would lie in my bed tossing and turning until I heard him come home. Then, I could relax and fall asleep because I knew I was safe. Dad was home. It’s like that with God. God is a safe place for us. He not only creates a safe place for us, but He is the safe place for us. A strong tower. Whether we are right or wrong, no matter the circumstance we can always run to Him and know that we are safe with Him.

We knew this as kids; if we were playing and if something happened or someone was too rough, you could run straight to mommy or straight to daddy and you knew “they are in trouble now!” We had found a safe place. Someone bigger than us who could advocate for us and defend us. God is on your team! Ready to defend and advocate for you. He is always rooting for you. Always believing the best for you.

Are you on God’s team? Ephesians 4:30 says, “The Holy Spirit of God has sealed you in Jesus Christ until you experience your full salvation. So never grieve the Spirit of God or take for granted his holy influence in your life.” We have the Holy Spirit living inside of us. Are we living our lives in a way that pleases Him? Are our hearts a safe place for God to dwell? We sing songs about the Spirit of God resting on us but are we creating an atmosphere within us where He can rest and dwell and reign?

Don’t get me wrong, the Holy Spirit is strong and mighty, He is not skittish, but we can create a hostile atmosphere in our hearts. Then, instead of growing deeper in our relationship with God, we begin to feel separated from Him. In this series, we are looking at how we can love on God in our hearts, thoughts and actions. It is all about getting rid of stuff that can pollute our safe and secret place with God so we can grow deeper in our relationship with Him.

So, when life doesn’t work out the way we thought it would or according to our plan, do we keep believing the best about God? Do we keep believing and confessing that He is good and His ways towards us are perfect? It is easy to see the goodness of God from the mountaintop, but that same God is still good in the valleys of life. We cannot allow external circumstances change our viewpoint of who we know God is. God is always good. We so happen to live in a fallen world full of pain and suffering. God doesn’t cause it. The devil is behind all of that.

When life’s storms come, it is not a time to run away from God and give up on Him. No. It is a time to run to God and say, “God you are my safe place and I make my heart Your home. Let Your peace reign in me.” As much as God doesn’t give up on us, we should not give up on God either. He is on our team.

When we give up on God it is not always easy to spot. We can still be showing up to church because we know that’s what we do on Sundays but in our hearts, we have stopped believing. We have stopped looking for miracles. We have stopped seeing God at work. We do not expect anything from Him anymore. We’ve given up. If this is you, today is your opportunity to run back to God. He is waiting on you. He never gave up on you! You belong to Him.

Love and blessings,
