Ballroom dance.

Jeremiah 29:11 says, “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.

I heard a beautiful analogy today, it was used in a different context but it works to describe what I want to share with you today. So here’s my version of it, “Life is like a ballroom dance. There is always one who leads and one who is being led.” In your dance are you the one doing the leading or are you the one being led?

Jeremiah 29:11 tells us that God knows the plans He has for us. They are good plans. Great plans.  1 Corinthians 2:9 gives us insight into these plans and it says, “This is why the Scriptures say: Things never discovered or heard of before, things beyond our ability to imagine — these are the many things God has in storefor all his lovers.

God promises that He has plans to give us hope and a future. Not just any future, a beautiful and bright future. We cannot begin to imagine the future that God has planned for us. It’s beyond words and beyond our wildest imagination. I can tell you now that 10 years ago I could not see myself where I am today. I always get excited thinking about the future because I know that for as long as God is in my life, my future is good. Likewise for you, as long as God is in it, your future is looking real good!

Isaiah 55:8-9 says, ““My thoughts are nothing like your thoughts,” says the Lord.“And my ways are far beyond anything you could imagine. For just as the heavens are higher than the earth, so my ways are higher than your ways and my thoughts higher than your thoughts.”

Unless God reveals something to us, we cannot fathom the plans He has for us because we don’t think the way He thinks. Yet, whenever presented with an opportunity we try to take lead. We try to lead the dance, lead our lives in the direction we think is best. But we can barely see what’s in front of us let alone what the future holds. And our verse today tells us that God knows the plans, not us. Even when He reveals things to us, He does not give us the full breakdown with dates and times and every last detail of how we are going to get there. Most of those details form part of the adventure.

A couple weeks ago we talked about how God is good. We need to trust God with our lives. Trust Him with our futures and trust Him to execute His plans in our lives. We have a relationship with God. We are not just mindless zombies following Him because we have no choice. We choose daily to follow Christ and to lay down our own opinions and what we think should happen and we trade that for His plans which we know will be greater than our wildest dreams!

God is good. Because He is good, we do not need to concern ourselves with leading the dance. Instead, we can allow ourselves to be swept off our feet and led by the One who loves us and gave His life for us. God knows the plans. Trust Him with His plans. He knows what He is doing. He knows the song, the timing and flow. Let Him do the leading.

Love and blessings,

Melissa Tsingano.
