Your spirit is king.

Last week we started looking at our reality that God lives in us and He empowers us to live our lives in a way that pleases Him. Colossians 3:3-4 says, “For you died to this life, and your real life is hidden with Christ in God. And when Christ, who is your life, is revealed to the whole world, you will share in all his glory.” Verses 10-11, “Put on your new nature, and be renewed as you learn to know your Creator and become like him. In this new life, it doesn’t matter if you are a Jew or a Gentile, circumcised or uncircumcised, barbaric, uncivilized, slave, or free. Christ is all that matters, and he lives in all of us.”

So much going on in Colossians 3, it is one of my favourite bible passages. In this new series, before we start getting to the meat of it, we need to have it settled in our hearts that Jesus is all that matters and He lives in us. It’s not about you or me, we were co-crucified at the cross with Christ which is why when we live our lives outside of Christ, we face defeat from every angle. We are not meant to live life outside of Him. He is the vine and we are the branches, John 15. Once a branch is separated from the vine, it no longer has a life source. Likewise, once we are separated from Christ, we lose our life source and we slowly begin to die.

What does it mean to have Jesus Christ living in us? It means my spirit has direct access to Jesus 24/7. Not my soul. My soul is in the process of salvation by the continual renewing of my mind but my spirit was 100% saved the day I accepted Christ. Since we have Jesus Christ living in us, that means in your spirit, right now, you have access to healing, strength, wisdom, victory, whatever you need is already in you.

How crazy is that. We go through life as though we are trying to reach somewhere far away so we can get what we need but God is saying, “I am right here. Everything you need is already in you because I live in you.”

Last series, we talked about the stairway to Heaven how God opened Jacob’s eyes so he could see that in the midst of his darkest night, God was with him and he had direct access to heaven. Then we talked about how Jesus said that He is like our stairway to heaven and that we will see an open heaven over our lives. We are living in those times now. We already have an open heaven, question is, how do we release God into our lives? Again, I’ll let you in on a secret, go watch Maximize Church’s series, “The very same”. It will help you with this, my pastors go into detail about all of this.  There’s only so much I can put in a blog without writing a book! Lol.

What we need to learn is how to hear and discern whether something is coming out of our spirit or out of our soul. Our spirit is king because that is where God lives, our soul is a servant, its role is to serve the God purpose for your life which you get from your spirit and your body is a slave, you tell your body what to do, where to go and so on.

A classic example of trying to see whether it is your soul or spirit speaking: The other week my body was failing me. I was feeling bleh on all counts. My head hurt, my tummy hurt – everything hurt, my nose felt blocked, so yes bleh all round. I decided to lay hands on myself and pray for healing so I did just that. Soon as I got to the end of my prayer and I said, “In Jesus Name…” I was like, “Right, so I need to make sure I go home and get enough sleep and do this and do that.” Nothing wrong with that but that was my soul speaking and it was not coming in agreement with the prayer I prayed from my spirit. So, I literally stopped myself like, “No, I said in Jesus Name,” because we have to teach our soul to come in submission to our spirit. Then my mind caught on and I said, “Amen.”

You know the Bible tells us to love God with all “your heart, all your soul, all your mind, and all your strength,” Mark 12:30. We never really stop to think about it but our whole being needs to be in agreement. Which is why it is important to have things in the right order. When our body is in control, we find ourselves lacking self control and doing things that may “feel good” but long term they are actually damaging us.

We need to live out of our spirit, not from our reasoning or our emotions or our past trauma. Our spirit is hearing from God, so our spirit needs to take charge and tell our soul what we need to do and the soul communicates with the body. Our spirit is running the show because our spirit is not only hearing from God, but that is where God lives. Meaning, our spirit has direct access to God. So the more we learn to live life from our spirit, the more we release God into our everyday and the more we see God results in our lives. I hope this blessed you, have an awesome week.

Love and blessings,

Melissa Tsingano.
