Pure water.

We have been talking about living water. Wonderful beautiful refreshing living water. We have also been talking about what to do when we are spiritually thirsty. Spiritually dry or stuck. There is another type of water that we need daily. Ephesians 5:25-26 tells us what it is and it says, “For he [Jesus] died for us, sacrificing himself to make us holy and pure, cleansing us through the showering of the pure water of the Word of God.

We can never have too much of the word of God in us. I was just talking to my friend Friend today. Yes that’s what I call her, her real name is Gina and she is single fellas lol. Ok, anyway, we were talking about how when we first came to Christ we would spend so much time in the word of God. She spent years just reading it and writing it down and I spent years just reading and highlighting my bible and making notes. Even though it didn’t feel like we were getting much out of it we did it.

Now years later and in retrospect, we are realising how much of that word from those early days got planted in our spirits. See, I think sometimes we underestimate the power of the Word of God. Reading your Bible is an essential, a must for Christians. It’s our life line. Every situation we face in life, there is a scripture that tells us how to get out of it, how to get unstuck, how to move forward, how to get cleansed, how to get refreshed. The Bible is our “how to” guide on life.

God tells us not to despise the days of small beginnings (Zechariah 4:10). It didn’t look like much when we were reading and highlighting our bibles and making notes. I wasn’t getting sermons downloaded in my spirit or blogs. But from the seed sown in that time, God can now reach deep within and pull scriptures out of us that we have forgotten are there. I have times when I get a bible verse that my natural mind is like, “is that even a verse?” And I google it and it comes up. I get surprised every time! But God knows just the right time to call on a word that is in you to come alive and bring peace or hope or joy or wisdom in a situation.

It is up to us though to get the word of God in us. Our verse today tells us that God’s word has a cleansing effect on us. When we get into the word of God all our dry places begin to find water. All our messy places start to fall in line. The word of God is powerful. If we believe that Jesus is powerful, how then can we doubt the power of the word of God when Jesus is that word?

This week I encourage you to wipe the dust off your bible and open it and start reading it. Or download a Bible app on your phone, whatever works for you. Let the word of God do its work in you. It may not happen overnight, it may take days, weeks, months or years but it will work. At our church we like to say that the Word works for those that work the Word. The first step in working the word is by knowing it.

The bible says faith comes by hearing and hearing by the word of God. So read out the scriptures,  declare the word of God over yourself, listen to sermons with good teaching. Whatever it takes, get under the shower of the pure water of the word of God.

Love and blessings
