1 Corinthians 1:30 NLT says, “God has united you with Christ Jesus. For our benefit God made him to be wisdom itself. Christ made us right with God; he made us pure and holy and he freed us from sin”.
Sometimes it is hard to fully grasp with our human minds what it means to be joined with Christ. It is something that we have to ask God to give us revelation on. It is something that we constantly discover as we grow and we mature in knowledge and in understanding of Jesus. But our verse today seeks to shed some light on some of the benefits of being united with Christ.
We are told that it is for our benefit that God made Christ to be wisdom itself. What could that possibly mean? I think it means that God looked on Earth and realised that in order to have victory in this life, we need Jesus and we need wisdom. So He made Jesus to be wisdom for us. That means when we fix our eyes on Jesus, we are fixing our eyes on wisdom and strategy on how to do life. The best part is, since we are united or joined with Christ, we do not need to look far for wisdom, for wisdom is Christ in us. We have access to wisdom, we simply need to ask (James 1:5).
Our verse also says that Christ has made us right with God, He has made us pure and holy and freed us from sin. Take note that Jesus “has made us” is past tense. This was accomplished at the cross and came into effect the day you accepted Jesus Christ as your Lord and Saviour. So what does this look like? In one word Jesus. When the Father looks at us, He sees the same way He would see Jesus were He to walk into the room. He sees us as righteous, holy, pure and free from sin. How great is that?
The reason why sometimes we distance ourselves from God is because we think He is looking at our sins and past mistakes but the moment we pray and we repent- we are righteous, pure, holy and free from sin. God is not trying to complicate life for us. In fact I think He has made it so simple that our struggle is that sometimes it sounds too good to be true. Well, that is God. He is good, His goodness far outweighs anything that we may be able to consider as good. He is awesome, amazing and full of love for His kids, i.e. you and me.
I hope you have a blessed week. Hold your head up high. If you have Jesus in your life, you are right with God, pure, holy and free from sin 100%.
Love and blessings,
Mel.
