“We can complain because rose bushes have thorns, or rejoice because thorn bushes have roses”- Abraham Lincoln.
I “accidentally” stumbled upon that quote whilst looking for something else on Google. I use “quotation marks” for accidentally because I do not believe in mere coincidence in life. Anyway, I like that quote. I realised that all my life I have always seen rose bushes as having thorns and not as a thorn bush which bears roses. Pessimism always finds a way to sneak into our thoughts on a daily basis. It is almost the default setting for most people which is why it is important that we yield to the Holy Spirit as He works in us that our minds may be renewed to see things the way God sees them, (see Romans 12:2).
What area of you life needs a little optimism today? Have a quick check at the way you have been thinking or looking at the situations you may be facing and see if you are adopting the glass half full mentality knowing that even a little is much with God, (see Exodus 4:2; Judges 15:15; 1 Samuel 17:40; 1 Kings 18:44 and 1 Corinthians 1:27-29). Or you may see that you may have been focusing on the thorns on the rose bush, like me, and failing to appreciate that a thorn bush has roses on it.
When we choose to see things through the truth that is in Gods word, we may realise that what we once thought was hopeless is just an opportunity for God to do something great. The moment we begin to see that, we will also start to see the hand of God move on our behalf, only if we believe that He is able to call the dead back to life, (see Romans 4:17 and John 11:43).
Have an awesome week 🙂
Love Mel xx.
