Last week we started talking about Jesus as the Son of God. This is very important in our Christian faith because if Jesus was not the Son of God, then there is a whole ripple effect but it boils down to this; we are not going to make it to heaven. Jesus is our only hope of salvation, eternal life, forgiveness of our sins, reconciliation with our heavenly Father and the list goes on. Our faith hangs on the foundational truth that Jesus is the Son of God, that He died for our sins and rose back to life and is alive now in heaven, seated at the right hand of the Father and He shall come back again.
So, it is important that we understand that Jesus is the Son of God. Even more important is understanding that He was fully human when He lived on earth and simultaneously, He also was fully God. Now, this is important because if Jesus was not human, then He could not have died for us. God is eternal and cannot die. So therefore, He had to become human so He could die but that’s not the only reason He did it as we will see below in Hebrews 2 below. Also, if He was not fully God, He could not have paid for our sins for human blood was corrupted by sin and we needed pure unblemished blood to cleanse us. So Jesus had to be both.
Hebrews 2:14-18 says, “‘Since all his “children” have flesh and blood, so Jesus became human to fully identify with us. He did this, so that he could experience death and annihilate the effects of the intimidating accuser who holds against us the power of death. By embracing death Jesus sets free those who live their entire lives in bondage to the tormenting dread of death. For it is clear that he didn’t do this for the angels, but for all the sons and daughters of Abraham.
This is why he had to be a man and take hold of our humanity in every way. He made us his brothers and sisters and became our merciful and faithful King-Priest before God; as the One who removed our sins to make us one with him. He suffered and endured every test and temptation, so that he can help us every time we pass through the ordeals of life.”
How wonderful is that! See the world believes that God is sitting at a distance ready to smite them for being sinful or for the things they have done, nothing could be further from the truth. Yes, God shall one day judge every man according to his works, but His heart is always to bless us and not to hurt us. God became human so He could understand what its like to be tempted. What it’s like to feel hungry. What it is like to be limited in capacity and understanding and so on. He became one of us, so He could better understand us and be even more merciful to us.
Every human being is made in the image of God. We all carry a part of God and God is working really hard to bring us back to Him so He can adopt us as His kids and love us and care for us. He is such a good Father. Jesus became human so He could better understand you and me. He knows how you feel. He knows what it’s like to be betrayed. He knows what it’s like to be lied to, to be rejected, to have people hate you, spit on you, beat you and curse you. He knows what it’s like when life is unfair or life feels heavy and hard. He knows what it’s like to suffer and struggle. He knows what it’s like when the enemy comes at you when you are most vulnerable. He knows and He understands. He understands you. He gets you. He gets you more than you get you.
God knows what’s going on with me long before I know what’s going on with me. So instead of trying to figure it out, I am learning to just ask, “Hey Jesus, is it me or is everyone extra annoying today?” It’s usually me!
Jesus became human so He could get you and understand exactly what you are going through and He wants to walk you through it. He is not off in the distance, with His arms crossed and mad. His arms are open wide, and He wants to be there for you and help you through, if you will let Him. He understands you. He loves you where you are and will love you back into being the person you were created to be. Deep down you know you were created for more. Only Jesus can unlock that out of you.
Come to Jesus. Take the step, He has done the hard part. Now this part is up to you. Are you going to make Jesus Lord of your every part of your life? Especially those hidden parts and the parts that hurt? He wants to be Lord there too. Will you trust Him and let Him be God in your life? Jesus is extending mercy and love to you today, will you receive it?
Love and blessings,
Melissa Tsingano.
