Psalms 19:14 says, “May the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be pleasing to you, O Lord, my rock and my redeemer.”
How are your words? Have your words been kind, joyful, praiseworthy, full of love and full of life? How about your heart? The quickest way to see what is going on in your heart is to pay attention to the words coming out of your mouth. Are you peaceful and at rest or are you tense, stressed, frustrated or overwhelmed? What have you been meditating on in your heart? Is it pleasing to God. Is it something you’d want God to listen in on or something you’d rather hide?
These are all self reflection questions that we need to answer for ourselves. I find sometime we are so busy we don’t get time to check in with ourselves to see where we are and someday something crazy happens and we wonder, “How did I get here?” It is easy to go off course and to drift away from God. This week we will be talking about running to God not away from God.
God is our rock, our safe hiding place. Do you have a safe place? A place where you can be yourself? God is a wonderful safe place. We can be our unfiltered selves with Him. We can let Him in on where we’re really at. How we really feel and what we really wanted to say to that person but couldn’t because Holy Spirit reminded us we are saved. We talked about how God I omniscient so He already knows. Talking about it does not make it awkward, it actually brings you in closer to God and He leans in even closer when you trust Him with the deep, honest and raw parts of your being.
Where do you run when you are in trouble or your soul is feeling some kind of way? There are times when we run to God in our day of trouble. Then there are other times when we tend to stay away from God. Sometimes it’s because we don’t know what His response will be to a situation and we try to avoid the answer but instead of peace we find ourselves captive to anxiety and fear. Sometimes it’s because we know that the words of our mouths and the meditation of our hearts are a bit askew and we don’t want to run to God in case He confronts us about it. There are many reasons why we choose not to run to God but none that are good enough for us to stay away from Him.
God loves us you much. When you run to God you will always be met with wide open arms and a warm embrace, not a reprimand or scolding or “I told you so!” God is not like that. God knows what’s needed in the moment and that’s exactly what He will be to you when you run to Him.
Psalms 61:2-4 says, “From the ends of the earth, I cry to you for help when my heart is overwhelmed. Lead me to the towering rock of safety, for you are my safe refuge, a fortress where my enemies cannot reach me. Let me live forever in your sanctuary, safe beneath the shelter of your wings!”
God is our safe place. When life is happening all around us and everything is uncertain God is our solid rock. Psalms 62:2 says, “He alone is my rock and my salvation, my fortress where I will never be shaken.”
We can call on God when we are in trouble and He will rescue us every time. I will leave you with this, 2 Samuel 22:1-4 says, “David sang this song to the Lord on the day the Lord rescued him from all his enemies and from Saul. He sang: “The Lord is my rock, my fortress, and my savior; my God is my rock, in whom I find protection. He is my shield, the power that saves me, and my place of safety. He is my refuge, my savior, the one who saves me from violence. I called on the Lord, who is worthy of praise, and he saved me from my enemies.””
Let us build our lives on the solid Rock, Jesus Christ and in our day of trouble, let us remember to run to our Rock our safe place.
Love and blessings,
Melissa Tsingano.
