Join the Class

Last week we looked at how God loves to help us. We can call on Him and He will help us in our time of need. One of the ways that God helps us is by teaching us how to do things His way.

As humans, we tend to be stubborn. We sometimes act like, or think, we know it all. We may not say it outwardly, but the moment we value our own thoughts, opinions and ways of doing things above those of God and godly counsel, then we move into dangerous territory. Pride says, “I’ve got this. I can do it.” Or “Let me do me.” Humility recognises that help is needed, and it says, “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.” It looks to God to help make things happen, not self.

So, God is all knowing, we looked at this a while ago. He is omniscient. If you can imagine for a minute that we are in the classroom of life, and God is the teacher. We go to school not because we have the answers but because we know that when we show up, there is One who is equipped to answer our questions and help us navigate different problems that arise. God is our Teacher and He is good at what He does!

Psalm 25:8-9 says, “How good You are to me! When people turn to You, Yahweh, they discover how easy You are to please—so faithful and true! Joyfully You teach them the proper path, even when they go astray. Keep showing the humble your path, and lead them into the best decision. Bring revelation-light that trains them in the truth.” Joyfully God teaches us the right way to do things. Not begrudgingly, and not in anger. When our hearts are open, we can easily hear from God and learn from Him.

You want to know how to do well in life, at work or in your relationships with others? Isaiah 48:17 says, “This is what Yahweh, your Kinsman-Redeemer, the Holy One of Israel says: “I am Yahweh, your God. I am the One who teaches you how to succeed and who leads you step by step in the way you should go.”” We have a Teacher.

John 7:17 says, “So Jesus responded, “I don’t teach my own ideas, but the truth revealed to me by the One who sent me.”” If Jesus Himself, did not rely on His own thoughts and ideas, and instead leaned on God to tell Him what to teach us, how much more should we be inclined to listen to God when He speaks to us and teaches us things? Jesus was humble and so submitted to the Father that He did not teach whatever He liked, He taught that which was revealed to Him. Does Jesus know more than we do? 100%. Yet never once did He say, “Let me do me.” He always did what the Father asked.

We should in turn not live life based on our own ideas, but based on the truth that God reveals to us. We are not here to do us, we were created with a purpose in mind. We are here to do God’s will but that doesn’t come naturally. So we must be taught how to do things God’s way. God does this through His word, through godly counsel and teaching and when He speaks to us. God wants to be your Teacher.

Love and blessings,

Melissa Tsingano.
