“Hallelujah! For the Lord our God, the Almighty [the Omnipotent, the Ruler of all] reigns”, Revelations 19:6.
Did you know that we only see one side of the moon from earth? This is because the moon orbits the earth once for every rotation which means we end up looking at the same side of the moon all the time. That is crazy to me. No one on earth has seen the other side of the moon from earth. It is the same with God. We don’t know everything there is to know about God in this life. God is all knowing (omniscient) but we are not. We know only what He has revealed to us. Sean Curran said this, “To worship a God who is incomprehensible is one of the best ways to know you haven’t made a god of yourself.” If we could understand everything about God, then is He really God?
We have talked about God’s Omnipresence and His Omniscience, today we will look at His Omnipotence. Sometimes we allow the devil to convince us that God is not really as powerful as the Bible tells us He is. We look at the chaos in the world all around us and we think, “If God truly is powerful, why is the world in such a mess?” The truth is that the state of the world is no reflection of God’s power but more so of mankind’s sin and independence from God. So, what does it mean when we say God is all powerful?
Sometimes when we think of God being all-mighty or all-powerful, we think He has power. However, in fact and in reality it is more so that God is all power and He is all might. That is, God is all power and all power comes from God. Psalm 62:11 says, “God said to me once and for all, “All the strength and power you need flows from Me!””.
As humans we think we are so strong but in reality, we are kinda low key frustrated about some area of our lives. Why? Because we do not have the power to change it. We are limited. Our power comes from God.
God is never frustrated. There is nothing that He wants to do that He cannot do. He is all power. Revelations 1:8 says, “I am the Alpha and the Omega – the beginning and the end,” says the Lord God. “I am the One who is, who always was, and who is still to come – the Almighty One.” This verse tells us two things, that God is eternal and that His power is eternal. He is the Almighty One today, He was the Almighty One way back then and He always will be the Almighty One. That means God never gets tired or weary. He does not run out of energy because He is all power.
Ever wonder how Holy Spirit can put up with us and our craziness for over 2000 years? He is all powerful. He does not get tired. We cannot wear God out. God will always outlast us. God’s power is unlimited. We go through our day by 6:00pm we are winding down and most are in bed by 10:00pm. I aspire to be one of those people someday haha! But we are tired and exhausted by the time the day ends. Why? Because our energy gets depleted during the day and we need to recharge. God never needs to recharge. He never needs a vacation or a break. He always is all powerful. Psalm 121:4 says, “Behold, He who keeps Israel will neither slumber [briefly] nor sleep [soundly].” I always say naps are life, because I need them! God does not take naps. He doesn’t need it. How insane is that, He has existed since forever and never once napped or just shut His eyes to rest for a few minutes!
Did you know that creating the earth was not hard for God? He spoke most of it, and only got His hands dirty when He was creating us out of dust because He loves us. But it was easy for Him to do. God rested on the seventh day, not because He was exhausted from creating the world, but because His work was finished. Genesis 2:1-2 says, “So the heavens and the earth were completed, and all their hosts (inhabitants). And by the seventh day God completed His work which He had done, and rested (ceased) on the seventh day from all His work which He had done.”
God is all power and His power is unlimited. Hebrews 1:3 says, “…He [Jesus] holds the universe together and expands it by the mighty power of His spoken word…” Now if that isn’t power, I don’t know what is. God is so powerful that when it came time to save humanity from its own rebellion, He gave His life, then three days later, He picked it back up again just like that. We are the only religion where our God died and came back to life again, and I think that is pretty awesome!
Do you know what happened in those three days Jesus was dead? He went to the pit of hell, looked the devil in the face and told him to hand over the keys of death and the grave. God and the devil are not equally powerful. God is the source of all power, the devil is a created being like you and I. Is the devil stronger than us? Yes. Is he stronger than God? No, not even close.
I’ll leave you with this, Colossians 2:14-15 says, “He cancelled out every legal violation we had on our record and the old arrest warrant that stood to indict us. He erased it all—our sins, our stained soul—he deleted it all and they cannot be retrieved! Everything we once were in Adam has been placed onto his cross and nailed permanently there as a public display of cancellation. Then Jesus made a public spectacle of all the powers and principalities of darkness, stripping away from them every weapon and all their spiritual authority and power to accuse us. And by the power of the cross, Jesus led them around as prisoners in a procession of triumph. He was not their prisoner; they were his!”
Love and blessings,
