Today we are going to start looking at some of the attributes of God. Sometimes there are words used to describe God that we use as Christians, but no one really explains them. Which means when we are in battle, we don’t really know whether God can help us, wants to help us, or will help us, so sometimes we remain stuck. Simple answer is, God is always willing to help in every situation including the ones we create for ourselves! But God cannot be manipulated. So, we will spend some time discussing the attributes of God so we can learn who our God really is.
We will start with God’s omnipresence. We looked at this back in April 2024 when we were talking about Holy Spirit. You can look up the post, “Omnipresent” if you have time.
See God is not like us, He is not limited by time and space. God is as much in my today as He is in my future. That doesn’t make sense to us because we live in a linear world where we experience life moving forward.
God is outside of all of that, and He knows what I am going to do next week because He is already there. He knows exactly where I will be on 13 May 2055, which is thirty years from now, why? Because He is there. He is everywhere, past, present and future. He is outside of time and space. That is mind blowing and a little hard to understand but it is true. This is why we should believe the promises of God over our lives because He is not just saying it because it sounds nice, He is saying it because He can see it. He is already in our future.
Anyway, I digress. Jeremiah 23:23-24 says, ““Am I just a God nearby,” demands Yahweh, “and not a God who is both near and far away? Can anyone hide somewhere in secret where I do not see him?” declares Yahweh. “Is there anywhere in heaven or on earth where I am not present?” declares Yahweh.”
Isn’t it funny how sometimes we forget that God sees everything? Sometimes people think they are getting away with whatever it may be because nobody knows but they forget that God sees what is done in secret and it breaks His heart.
Matthew 6:4 tells us that what we do in secret (in the context of our giving) God will repay openly. I believe this applies to every area of life. What we do in secret, will be rewarded openly both good and bad. It is the law of seed time and harvest. Galatians 5:7-8 says, “Don’t be misled—you cannot mock the justice of God. You will always harvest what you plant. Those who live only to satisfy their own sinful nature will harvest decay and death from that sinful nature. But those who live to please the Spirit will harvest everlasting life from the Spirit.”
Luke 12:2-3 puts it this way, “Everything hidden and covered up will soon be exposed. For the facade is falling down, and nothing will be kept secret for long. Whatever you have spoken in private will be public knowledge, and what you have whispered secretly behind closed doors will be broadcast far and wide for all to hear.” You can do something in secret for a season, but one day it will come out in the open and it will no longer be hidden.
God sees everything. So why live our lives trying to please people around us yet insulting God by doing things in private thinking He can’t see it or will not do something about it? God sees everything. He is everywhere. You’re in the club, He’s in the club. You’re in the alley, He’s in the alley. You in the backseat of a car, He’s there too. You are sending things you shouldn’t be sending on snapchat and in your DMs, God sees that too. God is everywhere.
Psalms 139:11-12 says, “It’s impossible to disappear from you or to ask the darkness to hide me, for your presence is everywhere, bringing light into my night. There is no such thing as darkness with you. The night, to you, is as bright as the day; there’s no difference between the two.”
God’s omnipresence is a blessing to those who live their lives to please God, and it is a great inconvenience to those with something to hide. To those living to please God we know that if we are mistreated in secret, God sees it and He will take care of it. If we are kind and generous and live life His way, God sees and He will take care of us. It brings security, safety and hope that where no one sees, God sees. Proverbs 15:3 says, “The Lord is watching everywhere, keeping his eye on both the evil and the good.”
There is nowhere I can go where God is not already there. If I am going to a new place, I don’t need to be afraid, God is already there. If I am starting a new job, starting at a new school or wherever it may be, God is already there. Isn’t that comforting?
Genesis 28:16 says, “Then Jacob awoke from his sleep and he said, “Without any doubt the Lord is in this place, and I did not realize it.” What area of your life have you not been seeing God? Because I can guarantee you this, He is there.
Love and blessings,
Melissa Tsingano.
