Isaiah 7:14-15 TPT says, “The Lord himself will give you a sign. Behold—the virgin will conceive and give birth to a son and will name him God Among Us. He will eat curdled milk and honey, and he will know enough to refuse the evil and choose the good.”
We have been looking at the faithfulness of God in keeping His promises. One of the most important promises that God kept was the birth of our Savior Jesus. The prophet Isaiah prophesied a virgin birth. I’m sure people must have thought that he was losing his marbles. How does a virgin have a baby? It had never happened before and since the birth of Jesus, it has not happened again.
Sometimes God’s promises do not make sense to us because we have no context for them. We have no point of reference for them. Has God ever said something to you that your brain just could not compute? He does that all the time. Says things that our brains cannot connect the dots to. Says things that make our logic stop logic-ing.
When God does things in our lives, it is supernaturally natural. Supernatural in that the virgin conceived a baby, natural in that the baby was normal as, born like any other baby, cried and pooped His diaper like any other baby and had to grow up like any other baby. Nothing screams, “Hey, I am the Messiah!” like a crying 3-month-old baby at 3:00 in the morning- right? Wrong!
But Mary had had this encounter with God when an angel appeared to her in Luke 1:31 which says, “You will become pregnant with a baby boy, and you are to name him Jesus.” Luke 1:34-35 goes on to say, “Mary said, “But how could this happen? I am still a virgin!” Gabriel answered, “The Spirit of Holiness will fall upon you and almighty God will spread his shadow of power over you in a cloud of glory! This is why the child born to you will be holy, and he will be called the Son of God.”
God has a way of confirming His word and His promises to us. He wants to, because He wants our amen of agreement so we can faithfully anticipate the promise. God is looking for faith filled responses from us when He gives us these promises and dreams that seem beyond reach. Look at Mary’s response in Luke 1:38, “Then Mary responded, saying, “Yes! I will be a mother for the Lord! As his servant, I accept whatever he has for me. May everything you have told me come to pass.” And the angel left her.”
Mary didn’t say, “Mmm, I guess. It’s whatevs.” She didn’t play hard to get with the word of God. She accepted it, she received it, she believed it and she came in agreement with it. Have you accepted, received, believed or come in agreement with the word God has for your life? Have you given God your “Yes”? God won’t force His promises or His will on us. He gave us free will and He lets us use it even if we choose to use it to our detriment. So if you want God’s promises to come to pass in your life, you need to come in agreement with the promise.
Hebrews 11:6 says, “And without faith living within us it would be impossible to please God.” Hebrews 11:32-35 goes on to say, “And what more could I say to convince you? For there is not enough time to tell you of the faith of Gideon, Barak, Samson, Jephthah, David, Samuel, and the prophets. Through faith’s power they conquered kingdoms and established true justice. Their faith fastened onto their promises and pulled them into reality!
It was faith that shut the mouth of lions, put out the power of raging fire, and caused many to escape certain death by the sword. Although weak, their faith imparted power to make them strong! Faith sparked courage within them and they became mighty warriors in battle, pulling armies from another realm into battle array. Faith-filled women saw their dead children raised in resurrection power…”.
All it takes to see the promises of God come to pass in your life (crazy as they may sound to you) is faith in God and your yes of agreement. Nothing is impossible with God, Luke 1:37.
Love and blessings,
