Last week we started talking about intimacy with God, being one with God. I once heard that intimacy can be broken down to say, into-me-see. It is allowing the other person access to those parts of you that you don’t allow everyone access into.
We see this in our lives, on every level of relationship there are different boundaries that we implement. There are friends who know our deep dark secrets, there are others who know one aspect of us. They know the blogger, the mother, the gym enthusiast and so on. Boundaries allow us to relate to people differently depending on the level of relationship. Boundaries are good and they are healthy.
However, life can sometimes cause us to build walls and close every single person out. When we do this, we find ourselves suffering from loneliness in a room full of people. We find ourselves devoid of meaningful relationships. Unfortunately, when we cannot form healthy relationships with people that we see, it is even harder to form a healthy relationship with God whom we cannot see, see 1 John 4:20-21.
James (Jacob) 4:8 TPT says, “Move your heart closer and closer to God, and he will come even closer to you…” You may know it as, “Draw near to God and He’ll draw near to you…” How beautiful is that verse though? We take a small step towards Jesus and God comes running to us. James makes it clear that if we want intimacy with God, we make the first move but we are guaranteed each time that when we do that, God comes even closer to us.
We take a step towards God. We open up about that issue at work that’s stressing us. We pray about that hurt that we have been holding onto for years. We make the first move. Why? Because Jesus has already done all there is to do. He died for us, He loves us whole heartedly and completely. There is nothing we can do to make Him love us more.
So we make the first move, as a response to His goodness, His love, His mercy. We take a step towards Him to say God we are willing to work together on our relationship with You. His arms are always open wide, ready to receive us.
Make the move. Take the step towards God. There is nothing He wants more than a healthy loving relationship with you, His precious one.
Love and blessings,
Melissa Tsingano.
