What’s on your mind?

Philippians 4:8 says, “And now, dear brothers and sisters, one final thing. Fix your thoughts on what is true, and honorable, and right, and pure, and lovely, and admirable. Think about things that are excellent and worthy of praise”.

Are your thoughts aligned with God’s word today? How often I find my thoughts wandering off into dark or dangerous territory. Our verse tells us clearly what we ought to focus on. We need to be mindful of our thoughts because whatever we think in our hearts is what we will become (see Proverbs 23:7). If you think about something enough times, your life will gravitate in that direction. So, whenever our minds start wondering off, we have a standard upon which to test out thoughts in Philippians 4:8.

We are to test each of our thoughts and ask, “Is this thought true?” Most thoughts would be knocked out right there. If it is from the enemy of your soul- it is not true, he is the father of lies (see John 8:44). If the thought does not align with the word of God, again, it is not true. It does not matter how long you have believed it or thought it- if it does not line up with Scripture, it is not true.

If a thought passes the first test, run it past the other tests that we have been graciously provided in our verse. If the thought passes every test- well then I offer you one last test: Would Jesus entertain this thought if it entered His mind? I know sometimes we are quick to defend our own thoughts so perhaps the last test will help.

We are to live our lives like Jesus did. Perhaps, like me, you have also been confessing that you have the mind of Christ (see 1 Corinthians 2:16). Therefore, our last test should be, “Would Jesus entertain this thought- WJETT?” LOL. Let’s keep it simple and stick to WWJD- What Would Jesus Do?

Have a blessed week full of God thoughts!
